It's been a while coming, but today the Lashings World XI received confirmation that their expected tour to Abu Dhabi has been confirmed and will go ahead. This event had previously been postponed due to the lack of availability of business class flights, however this problem has now been rectified so the tour can take place.
The tour currently looks set to begin on or around 22nd February 2008 and will end on 29th February. During this time, the team will be based within the seven-star luxury of the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
Lashings World XI Chairman David Folb has already named a provisional lineup for the tour, with the team as follows:
Richie Richardson (WI) (Capt)
Alvin Kallicharran (WI) (Manager)
Chris Adams (ENG)
Jimmy Adams (WI)
Greg Blewett (AUS)
Chris Cairns (NZ)
Mark Ealham (ENG)
Grant Flower (ZIM)
Chris Harris (NZ)
Graeme Hick (ENG)
Rashid Latif (PAK) (wk)
Azhar Mahmood (PAK)
Chris Silverwood (ENG)
On hearing the news that the tour was confirmed, Lashings World XI Team Manager Alvin Kallicharran said "I am honoured to be taking the Lashings World XI to Abu Dhabi. The Emirates Palace Hotel is one of the best, if not the best hotel in the world, so the guys are in for a treat! I was there in July with Folby and Cairnsy [David Folb and Chris Cairns] when we were in the early stages of discussing the tour, so I can tell you first hand - the place is fantastic, the people are wonderful and it's a great place to visit. I really enjoyed it there and I'm looking forward to going back to Abu Dhabi with the team."
