A hat-trick and a quickfire innings of 38 in just three overs was not enough for Nathan Dumelow to salvage Cheshire's semi-final clash against Lashings Cricket Club in the Twenty20 Resource Bank competition at Wellington CC, Telford.
Dumelow claimed a hat-trick, taking former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns, former Pakistan international Rashid Latif and Zimbabwe cricket rebel Henry Olonga in successive balls, but the damage had been done. Cairns had come in with Lashings on 15-4, was dropped early and went on to score 78 from 46 balls as the famous team of international stars ended on 122-9 (Adam Syddall 3-4).
Dumelow's 38 came at a strike rate of 211, but it was not enough to inspire his side to victory.
Cheshire stumbled from 40-0 to 99-7 and in a frantic finish, some good batting from Chris Finegan and Syddall took Cheshire within seven runs of a win in the last over.
But despite their best efforts, Cheshire fell five runs short of victory.
