Eversholt Lashed!

World XI register highest-ever score at Eversholt's Recreation Ground

New Zealander Chris Cairns produced a batting masterclass as a Lashings World XI trounced Eversholt by 72 runs on Wednesday afternoon.

The former Black Cap smashed 157 runs off just 62 balls, including 15 fours and 14 sixes, as Lashings finished on 349-6 off their 35 overs.

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif, pictured, weighed in with 62 and Kiwi Chris Harris made an unbeaten 44 as Lashings posted the highest-ever total at the Recreation Ground.

Tom Wisson picked up the wickets of former England all-rounder Phil DeFreitas, the destructive Cairns and West Indies legend Gordon Greenidge as he finished with 3-62 off his six overs.

Other notable scalps went to Simon Avis, who clean bowled Australia star Greg Blewett for a duck, Dan Nichols, who captured the wicket of Latif, and James MacMillan, who had Marvan Atapattu caught by Douglas Muzawazi.

Hundreds of fans turned out for the cricket feast, and Eversholt did themselves proud but were eventually bowled out for 277.

The event was sponsored by Woburn Sands restaurant Jalori Indian Cuisine and helped to raise money for the development of youth cricket at the club.
