It's been a busy Bank Holiday weekend for the Lashings World XI, as they announced today that explosive South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs will be playing for Lashings in 2008.
He is due to join the squad sometime around the 10th July (which could potentially make him part of the Lashings squad taking part in the Minor Counties Twenty20 Challenge in Shropshire) and is hoping to stay until the end of the season.
2008 will be Herschelle's second stint with Lashings - he played some matches for the "World's Greatest Cricket Club" back in 2005 and immediately made an impact with the same kind of hard-hitting style that led him to the record books in the 2007 World Cup, where he smashed Holland's Daan van Bunge for six sixes in an over.
Some sadder news has also come to light over the Bank Holiday weekend, as Chris Cairns has told Lashings he will be withdrawing from the Lashings squad for the forseeable future, citing "personal reasons" for his withdrawal.
