Mongia stars at Lashings Awards

The Lashings End of Season Dinner and Awards ceremony took place on Monday (8th September) at the Kensington Roof Gardens in London.

Among those present were 15 members of the current Lashings squad, including the likes of Phil Simmons, Phil Defreitas, Devon Malcolm, Rashid Latif and Marvan Atapattu, as well as former undisputed world boxing champ Lloyd Honeyghan.

Lashings World XI President David Fraser opened proceedings with a short speech on the season, during which he highlighted the work Lashings does to raise money for charity and also personally thanked the team's sponsors, several of whom were present.

As usual, Scott Charlton and Dave Lee MBE were on top form as comperes for the evening, introducing hypnotist Christopher Caress for the cabaret as well as Channel 5's Jonny Gould, the night's guest auctioneer who proceeded to bring the house down as well as raising thousands for the chosen charities of the evening - the ACLT, the Rashid Latif Cricket Academy and the Lashings World XI Grass Roots Fund.

The awards ceremony took place towards the end of the night and there wasn't any real doubt about who stole the show - Dinesh Mongia scooped three of the six awards, winning Batsman of the Year, Bowler of the Year and Player of the Year. Chris Harris won Fielder of the year while Rashid Latif was voted Coach of the Year.

Finally, the Champagne Moment of the year was won by Brendan Taylor who, fresh from the season's highest score of 167 against the Sparrow Schools XI at Dulwich College, proceeded to take a stunning diving catch on the boundary, right in front of the commentary team. That moment narrowly beat what was undoubtedly the funniest moment of the year, when three-year-old Max Giddins was wandering past the commentary point at the NatWest Corporate Day, saw his dad Ed attempting to bat and piped up "my daddy doesn't know what he's doing does he?!"

Overall, the event was very successful and Lashings would like to extend their thanks to everyone involved in the event, whether as an organiser, artist or guest.
