Nilesh - a tall, lanky slow left arm bowler - played three tests and ten one day internationals for India but his main claim to fame came from the very first delivery of his international career, where he became the 12th man in history (and the only Indian) to take a wicket from his very first ball. Conveniently for us, his victim was Lashings team mate Marvan Atapattu and we do like to remind Marvan of this from time to time! Marvan gets the last laugh though, as his Sri Lankan team mates proceeded to rack up a record total of 952/6 declared and Nilesh toiled through another 70 overs for no reward! His record in domestic cricket is far more impressive though, with around 500 career wickets at an average well below 25 and a first-class economy rate of just 2.2 per over. We "discovered" Nilesh when he turned out for the Bunburys against Lashings in 2007 and he's turned out to be an excellent asset for the club since then. Particularly adept at putting the brakes on the scoring rate, he also continued the trend he started in Test cricket and took a wicket with his very first ball for Lashings, in a 20-20 match against the Celebrasian Masters XI, a team that included the likes of Kapil Dev and Arjuna Rantunga.
