Greg Blewett (AUS)

Internal Image

One of the regular members of the Lashings World XI squad since he played on the South Africa tour in 2004/5, Greg is also one of the most popular members of the Lashings World XI lineup. One of the most versatile batsmen of his era, at home in both gritty defence and all-out attack, he gained a well-earned reputation for being one of Australia's most consistent and reliable batsmen. Despite this, he only played 46 tests and 32 ODIs for Australia and never managed to cement a regular place - perhaps more of a testament to the general strength of Australia's national team at the time than anything else. However, he made the most of his limited opportunities and finished with 2552 Test runs with a top score of 214, made in Johannesburg during the course of a partnership of 385 with Steve Waugh - one of the highest partnerships in Test history. In addition to that, he made two test centuries in his first two matches - the first Australian to do so since Dougie Walters, and also carries the dubious distinction of recording two scores of 99 in a calendar year. Having retired from first class cricket in mid-2007, he now spends most of his time in the commentary box, and also took the opportunity to hone his vocal skills for Lashings while hampered with a back injury during the season. However he still found time to perform with both bat and ball either side of the injury, scoring five half-centuries and finishing the season with 5 for 25 against Flamingo - the best bowling figures of any Lashings player in 2007.
